About this role
Business Unit overview
The Global Indirect Tax Group is responsible for managing the VAT, GST and other indirect tax affairs for BlackRock globally. This includes managing group indirect tax policy, strategy, risk, compliance and accounting.
We have an exciting opportunity for a trainee to join our Global Indirect Tax Group in Edinburgh!
This role will offer the successful candidate a pathway towards becoming a Chartered Tax Advisor (“CTA”) with the Chartered Institute of Taxation (“CIOT”), whilst also gaining experience of working within an in-house multinational tax function in a fast-paced industry. The successful candidate will gain experience through a range of hands on VAT compliance, accounting and project work for BlackRock’s global group.
Are you what we are looking for?
We are seeking a passionate, highly motivated individual with an interest in tax who is looking to start and/or pursue a career in this area. The successful candidate will be looking to work towards their Association of Taxation Technicians (“ATT”) and CIOT qualifications and to develop their wider tax knowledge.
If you are a team player with an ability to problem solve, have strong numerical and analytical skills, are highly organised with strong attention to detail and a desire to progress and take on responsibility, then this could be the opportunity for you.
We are open to applicants from a diverse range of backgrounds and as such there are no minimum entry requirements for this role.
What we are offering
We are offering the successful candidate the opportunity to train towards becoming a CTA through the CIOT’s Tax Pathway. The Tax Pathway provides a route to membership of both ATT and CIOT and brings together the exceptional tax compliance knowledge delivered by the ATT qualification with the CTA – the gold standard of quality for tax professionals.
This role offers exciting development opportunities, with the chance to build your knowledge in both tax and accounting. Full training and support will be provided, both through the Tax Pathway as well as on a day-to-day basis from our experienced Tax and wider Finance teams.
There will be opportunities to learn about other areas of BlackRock’s business and the asset management industry more widely, as well as to develop your core business, personal and professional skills.
To help you stay energized, engaged and inspired, we offer a wide range of benefits including a strong retirement plan, tuition reimbursement, comprehensive healthcare, support for working parents and Flexible Time Off (FTO) so you can relax, recharge and be there for the people you care about.
Our hybrid work pilot
BlackRock’s current hybrid work pilot is designed to help you experience the best of both worlds: the opportunity to connect with colleagues in person and the flexibility to work remotely, with greater time to focus on what’s important to you. In line with local health guidance and regulations, employees are generally expected to work 3 days in the office and 2 days from home (on average) each week. For some business groups, more time may be required in the office, while greater flexibility may be in place for others. Our “One BlackRock” culture means you’ll be supported to collaborate with your new colleagues while bringing your full self to work – wherever you are.
The health, safety and well-being of our people will always be our top priorities; we will continue to monitor local conditions and health advisories in making decisions about our work environments.
At BlackRock, we are all connected by one mission: to help more and more people experience financial well-being. Our clients, and the people they serve, are saving for retirement, paying for their children’s educations, buying homes and starting businesses. Their investments also help to strengthen the global economy: support businesses small and large; finance infrastructure projects that connect and power cities; and facilitate innovations that drive progress.
This mission would not be possible without our smartest investment – the one we make in our employees. It’s why we’re dedicated to creating an environment where our colleagues feel welcomed, valued and supported with networks, benefits and development opportunities to help them thrive.
