About this role

We are seeking a Vice President to join the Canada COO team- a role central to the management of BlackRock’s business in Canada- supporting the Country Head, COO, and the Canada business heads; as well as partnering with our global and regional stakeholders.

Based in Toronto, you will work closely with senior management to lead strategic initiatives for the region as well as overseeing day-to-day operations. You can look forward to a multi-faceted role that will require a wide skillset including business knowledge, technical know-how, the ability to execute projects, and strategic thinking.

The successful candidate will be responsible for processes associated with business operations, interfacing on risk management, overseeing facilities management, and financial planning

Primary responsibilities:

Business management

Work with Finance on our annual budget planning exercise, and support tracking progress against budget throughout the year

Engage with teams across Canadian client businesses, Legal & Compliance, Operations, and Risk to gain an understanding of their key processes, risks, controls, and business objectives; and partner or lead on related strategic initiatives that impact Canada

Lead the regional team responsible for facilities management and front of house; partner with global real estate services teams on projects as needed

Aid senior leaders in organizing and producing a variety of executive-ready presentation materials

Collaborate with internal partners to identify and facilitate technology or efficiency enhancements to address the evolving needs of our business

Play a role in supporting or leading strategic projects that align to our business or talent priorities

Mentor junior team members and contribute to the staff’s overall development

Controls and Governance

Oversee business continuity management, including: emergency preparedness, and regular business continuity management review for Canada

Partner on compliance and regulatory procedures and reporting for Canada

Work with Risk and Quantitative Analysis (RQA) team to partner on operating event resolution as needed; and oversight of regular reporting for Canada on operating events

Skills

Effective project management capabilities with the ability to set guidance, manage to deadlines, navigate trade-offs, and measure effective solutions

Deep knowledge of Canadian fund structures, lifecycle of a trade, and related operational priorities

Ability to quickly produce management-level quality presentations, business memos and synthesize key information using data and analytics

Structured critical thinker with outstanding problem-solving abilities

Proven relationship-building abilities, collaborating across different groups and creating an inspirational environment

Team player who is inquisitive, comfortable with ambiguity and has the ability to manage multiple deliverables in a fast-paced environment

High level of self-motivation, able to own and drive things forward, gathering feedback and identifying ways to do things better along the way

Proficient in Excel and PowerPoint

Experience

5-7 years of relevant experience in business management or business operations within asset management or broader financial services

Demonstrated ownership over work product and seeing deliverables through to completion

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present and adapt your communication style as needed

High degree of professional discretion, integrity, and judgment

Proven ability to bring creativity, curiosity, and innovative thinking to everything you do

Undergraduate degree required
