About this role
We are searching for an attorney specializing in asset management to support BlackRock’s institutional client business, which includes insurers, public and private pension plans, foundations, endowments, family offices, sovereign wealth clients and other financial institutions. In this role, you will focus on separately managed accounts, contracting, and advisory engagements, investing with third-party managers, fiduciary duties of asset managers, and regulatory reform, particularly with respect to insurance clients.
You should demonstrate initiative and accountability, possess excellent analytical, communications and negotiation skills, have the ability to work across different business functions while remaining responsive, have confidence presenting complex issues to senior business managers, and be able to work creatively in a fast-paced environment. You may also be responsible for outside counsel engagement.
To ensure success you will possess the following:
J.D. with outstanding academic credentials and four to six years’ experience as a lawyer in a major law firm, in the legal department of an alternative investment fund management firm, or in the alternative investment division at an investment bank. We are seeking candidates with experience with the Investment Advisers Act of 1940, ERISA, banking regulations, the Dodd-Frank Act and/or securities laws. Familiarity with insurers and/or insurance regulations as they apply to asset management may also be beneficial.
Strong interpersonal skills. You should have outstanding analytical, written and verbal communication and relationship-building skills and a consistent track record working as a member of a team. You should solve problems in a practical manner, communicate complex concepts in an understandable way, and prioritize numerous demands.
Ability to manage multiple time-sensitive matters and remain highly organized. You should also excel at coordinating complex projects involving different business and assisting the business in implementing solutions across a range of BlackRock products and services.
