The Global Fixed Income Group (FFI) at BlackRock manages more than $2.5 trillion in fixed income assets across index, active, and liability driven strategies. The platform offers fixed income investors one of the industry’s broadest array of investment choices across index, model-based and fundamental investment styles.
Within FFI, the global Securitized Assets team is composed of over 25 seasoned investment professionals managing more than $100bn in AUM across the spectrum of Commercial Mortgage-Backed Securities (CMBS), Non-Agency Residential Mortgage-Backed Securities (RMBS), Asset Backed Securities (ABS), and Collateralized Loan Obligations (CLO’s).
The CMBS team within Structured Products currently manages over $40bn in AUM and is seeking an experienced level individual at the Director level with an expertise in commercial real estate (CRE) credit.
Key member of the CMBS portfolio management team serving as a primary CRE analyst, focusing on analyzing the credit aspects of conduit subordinate bonds, down to BBB-, and single-asset-single-borrower (SASB) CMBS subordinate bonds, including below investment grade exposure
Take lead role in evaluating credit on all new issue transactions including conduit transactions, SASB deals and CRE CLO’s
Create detailed written summaries of new issue transactions, including recommendations up and down the capital stack based on credit
Develop loss projections for largest conduit loans on a deal-by-deal basis
Conduct regular surveillance of conduit and SASB exposure, updating loan loss projections as part of the process
Monitor, and engage with, numerous data and CRE information sources to stay informed both on individual loans / properties and major CRE markets across the United States
Continuously create and implement various process improvements to enhance the efficiency of the credit review and surveillance processes
CMBS experience is not required, but strong CRE credit underwriting skills is required
7-10+ years of experience in evaluating and underwriting credit on all major commercial real estate property types, particularly office
Knowledge of strengths and weaknesses of major CRE markets across the country
Ability to closely surveil complicated credit positions, which requires evaluation of readily available CMBS data (e.g. on Trepp or Bloomberg) as well as information obtained via third-party research
Strong communication, interpersonal and time-management skills with an emphasis on being detail oriented
Ability to read and analyze research, financial statements and periodicals.
Ability to successfully perform under pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced work environment while managing multiple projects
Proficiency in Microsoft Office including PowerPoint and Excel. Flexibility to learn other programs including Aladdin and sector-specific tools
Familiarity with Argus, Bloomberg, VBA, SQL, Python is a plus
