BlackRock’s Multi-Asset Strategies & Solutions (MASS) group provides investment strategies and solutions that employ sophisticated asset allocation, risk management, and extensive research to deliver specific outcomes tailored to client needs. The Multi-Manager Platform (MMP) is an integral newly launched Platform in MASS. The MMP was created in response to the rapid business growth the business has experienced and is designed to serve clients better, increase operational efficiency, and drive success in third-party relationships. The ability to incorporate third-party managers into the portfolios we build is a crucial differentiator for BlackRock. The MMP has three distinct pillars: Manager Research & Selection, Manager Implementation & Infrastructure and Relationship Management. Manager Research & Selection focuses on identifying and combining managers to generate alpha through in-depth investment and operational due diligence and focuses on creating scalable research and frameworks to expand our coverage of available investment options. Manager Implementation & Infrastructure partners with other internal teams to build out new data models and infrastructure platform in Aladdin for third-party managers; they also are responsible for ensuring there is a consistent operating model for implementing managers into whole portfolio solutions at scale. Finally, Relationship Management is responsible for the overall relationship between MASS and each third-party manager and serves as the Multi-Manager Product Strategist for client engagements.
Team & Role Overview
BlackRock is seeking an entrepreneurial leader to be the EMEA Head of Relationship Management, to be based either in London or in Amsterdam.
As the regional head of a new function, we’re looking for an enthusiastic connector, who will be focused on building and maintaining third-party manager relationships. Together with the Global Head of Relationship Management, you will build a team responsible for BlackRock’s enterprise level negotiations with third party managers and be the primary point of contact for escalation of issues.
In this role, you will lead strategic partnerships with BlackRock’s largest managers by AUM and conduct manager reviews measuring their overall performance inclusive of delivery of their service level agreements. In partnership with researchers, you will communicate relationship updates to internal senior executives.
You and your team will serve as the Multi-Manager Product Strategists for client engagements. In working with clients you will represent the Multi-Manager Platform and communicate our investment research process, strategy coverage model and research and selection performance during pitches and quarterly reviews throughout the mandate.
A successful leader will be a connector within the firm and, in a 1BLK effort, you’ll collaborate within the MASS ecosystem, specifically with Core Portfolio Management and Client CIO teams and across the firm, including with our distribution teams (institutional and wealth), Strategic Partners Program, members of the Global Executive Committee and BlackRock investment product strategy leaders.
Build a team together with the Global Head to support the MMP Relationship Management pillar.
Partner across MMP pillars to ensure a consistent and cohesive manager communication and engagement model.
Maintain strategic partnerships with BlackRock’s largest third-party managers
Negotiate relationship pricing and enterprise level investment management agreements.
Serve as the accountable executive for conducing manager relationship reviews and the point of escalation related to operating and service level events.
Initiate and join introductory manager meetings ahead of full due diligence and for inclusion in our databases.
Create a regional MMP client engagement service plan in conjunction with Client CIO and distribution teams.
Support business development opportunities by representing the Multi-Manager Platform, our process, strategy coverage model and track record.
Serve as the liaison between client requirements and the broader MMP pillars.
Foster a consistent inclusive culture throughout BlackRock and act as a role model of the BlackRock principles.
An established track record in relationship management and preferably in building and maintaining a large, complex strategic or similar business.
Solid understanding of markets and familiarity across a wide range of investment styles and traditional and alternative investment products.
Proven leadership capability with a focus on inspiring and motivating a team
Ability to lead strategic projects and execute on long-term business plans.
Outcome oriented with intellectual curiosity that drives solution-based proposals
Strong communicator with an ability to synthesize complex topics to a broad set of internal and external stakeholders.
Ability to work collaboratively with other senior leaders and to build and maintain strong relationships and networks.
