Team Overview
The Retail SMA business spans across 25+ custodians and is comprised of roughly 426,000 accounts and $163 billion AUM. BlackRock’s SMA Reconciliation team is responsible for the daily reconciliation of over 46,000 accounts (and growing) across roughly 45 sponsor platforms. Additionally, the SMA team is responsible for working with internal and external partners to establish Sponsor connectivity, oversee performance and composite maintenance and collaboration with business partners to achieve growth initiatives. The team’s focus includes but is not limited to: daily cash and position reconciliation, reducing operational risk, technology and vendor engagement, automation, and the implementation of processes and workflows designed to support scale.
Role Responsibility
The SMA Reconciliation & Trade Support Team Manager – Vice President will manage and direct a team of 7 full time employees that are at the Vice President, Associate and Analyst level. The manager will be responsible for ensuring the daily support functions of Reconciliation, Trade Support, Performance and Composite Reporting are being handled appropriately and within the agreed upon SLA’s. They will also ensure the team is working in collaboration with stakeholders (e.g. PM teams, CoAc, DIG, AWT, Trade Ops, Sponsors) to resolve issues and mitigate risk with a client service mentality. They will collaborate with peers to ensure the team is on target to meet and exceed all SLAs, and is in a position to support growth and evolving business needs. The manager will support the development of procedures and processes for the Reconciliation function within the business unit and resolve complex or serious issues escalated by the team or internal/external partners. They will also support the implementation of new system enhancements and participate in the development of new enhancements and initiatives. The manager will be expected to synthesize and analyze team reporting of daily, weekly and monthly metrics to provide to senior management. They will also support the implementation of new technology solutions or improvements for new and existing business needs while monitoring and reviewing feedback to ensure new solutions are meeting business needs.
Responsibilities:

Oversight of the daily reconciliation of accounts across multiple sponsor platforms
Collaborate with internal and external business partners to resolve issues
Escalate identified risks and work to resolve exceptions, with a focus on scalability
Where necessary, participate in special projects and work with team and managers to establish workflows and connectivity with sponsor partners
Ensure the Reconciliation team is in line to meet or exceed all daily SLAs
Coordinate processes to ensure all Outside Custody accounts are reconciled in a timely manner and issues are relayed to the appropriate Portfolio Management team
Conduct performance reviews for the team and hold impactful recurring 1:1’s to ensure career growth is on track.
Oversee recruiting, directing, motivating and developing staff, maximizing their individual contributions, their professional growth and their ability to function effectively with their colleagues as a team
Contribute to the achievement of team objectives while also focusing on cross-training within other support teams under the SMA Operations org structure to provide a better overall support model.
Act as a change agent to ensure staff are constantly learning new functions and staying engaged with their roles and career development.
Represent SMA Operations on internal and external calls, presentations and clearly articulate the functions you are supporting.

Experience

5+ years of both industry & management experience
Strong client management skills, service philosophy, and risk mitigation mentality required
Experience in brokerage/banking operations/ reconciliation processes required
Experience with InvestCloud APL and Aladdin is a plus
Experience in the investment management/asset management business
Experience directly or indirectly supporting Retail & Institutional clients
Knowledge of the different participants in the fund management business and their roles – fund managers, administrators, brokers, consultants and custodians
Knowledge of BlackRock’s internal processes, products, and fund structures is a plus
Demonstrated ability to successfully deliver on projects
Excellent attention to detail, extremely accurate and well organized
Demonstrates ability to identify and implement process improvements
Ability to operate/prioritize effectively and adhere to tight deadlines
