About this role
As a senior member of the Asia-Pacific Credit Research within BlackRock’s Asian Credit and Fixed Income (FI) group, the successful candidate will be responsible for researching alpha generation in China credit markets, focusing on credit restructuring and high yield/stressed credits, driving the credit research agenda feeding into the Asian and global credit platforms, and leveraging investment expertise across BlackRock’s wider investment research platform including but not limited to US and European FI, credit, and equities platforms.
Conduct deep fundamental research to generate alpha ideas for Asian and global portfolios
Present alpha ideas to the broader team and PMs focusing on China High Yield
Partner with PMs in developing sector views using fundamental models
Lead credit restructuring efforts in stressed and defaulted credits
Lead the efforts in restructuring of the stressed and defaulted credits to deliver strong and consistent alpha. Co-ordination with legal teams and experience in jurisprudence in negotiations with co-investors
Drive and monitor proactive idea generation on existing and/or new alpha opportunities in China
Monitor and constructively challenge investment priorities and execution against those priorities, in coordination with the PMs and respective investment mandates
Target best practices and standardization of the investment process in stressed credits across the platform
Cultivate and maintain a high performing culture founded on meritocracy, skills, and teamwork
Encourage versatility of the team across different credit products and different investment processes; monitor and incentivize ownership across all products
Support the development and growth of talent; monitor and manage underperforming team members
Active participant on investment process
Along with other members of the Investment Committees, the candidate might be responsible for vetting and the approval of potential investment opportunities within the Asia-Pacific opportunistic private credit and loan strategies
Attend monthly and ad-hoc meetings to ensure established processes and controls are adhered to, review due diligence and investment committee memos, challenge research thesis and review financial model assumptions
Oversight of monitoring performance and harvesting post the portfolio build
Leveraging BlackRock’s wider investment research platform
Develop relationships across BlackRock, including but not limited to US and European FI, credit, and equities platforms, to leverage and improve our insights
The successful candidate will have a minimum of 10+ years of experience and a proven track record of generating alpha, specifically across China Credit. CFA charter holder preferred
Demonstrated fundamental research, analytical skills, with strong attention to detail
Extensive China credit research experience and the ability to communicate (both written and verbal) with Chinese clients in local language (Mandarin)
Excellent quantitative modeling and valuation skills and extensive experience in utilizing those skills within a financial services institution with familiarity and experience with bond and loan covenants
Disciplined organizational and project management skills, ability to manage competing workloads effectively, and deliver quality work on schedule
The successful candidate must have the confidence and ability to persuasively interact at the most senior levels of colleagues, management, and clients
Connections within the industry and proven ability to build and sustain internal and external relationships
Experience managing numerous investment professionals in a complex, global environment and demonstrate the ability to work more broadly within an organization where information-sharing is critical to the success of all teams across asset classes
Outstanding interpersonal characteristics, reputation, and team orientation, which will enable her/him to command the confidence, loyalty, and respect of investment colleagues and external constituents
